Everything is holding together — so far, so good. I’ve stuck with the new preventative maintenance back stretching routine and so far it’s helping with the suspected bulging disc and hip bursitis. Unrelated is the strain in my back rib cage from the new stretches. It still hurts and seems to hurt worse after sleeping on it. Anyhow, yesterday I did a good stretching followed by push-ups, modified situps and taekwondo floor drills. I was feeling stoked enough to try something I’ve not done in over a year: taekwondo poomsae!
Because our two-car garage is half full of boxes our “lovely” townhouse lacks the space for me to practice forms. We have a smallish backyard that’s half covered by a raised patio (above). Since moving here I’ve meant to test out the backyard space and that’s exactly what I did yesterday. I reviewed Taegeuk Il-jahng, Ee-jahng and Sam-jahng. I had to resort to my very worn copy of the book to jog my memory, however, the forms are still in my addled brain! Three forms is about all my brain could take. After a few reviews of the book I was able to make it through a complete form without mistakes. That having been said, they are not tournament pretty and are pretty rough!
So far I have just enough room for the three forms on our patio. The patio has a 4″ drop and I suspect that some of the upper forms may take me into the grass–not sure how I’ll handle that transition. I plan to continue my review of the forms until the weather gets so crappy that I can’t take it. With luck I’ll make it to Koryo before the winter winds start to howl!
