Some of you know that I’ve gotten a membership at the SuperFit gym chain. It’s been decades since I’ve been a gym rat, however, I have to say that I recommend SuperFit. While I can’t afford martial arts lessons until the money pit sells I CAN afford $19.95 a month. For that price you get unlimited 24 hr access to one of the cleanest gyms I’ve ever seen. Yes, I could workout for free at the college gym. However, after a day of the administrator rat race it’s nice to be around non-college folks while I workout and decompress.
Growing up in a small Nebraska farm town there were not many fitness options. Back in the 80′s I spent an inordinate amount of time lifting weights wrongly, over-training, and running way too much–all for naught because I’m still lanky.
The new trend (new for me) that I see is a lot of people are doing some sort of core training which is good. One thing, however, has not changed since the 80′s: People still do stupid stuff!
The biggest constant I see is some Conan lifting way too much weight wrong. Example: Last night some knucklehead had 315 lbs on the bench but he was only bringing the bar down a third of the way. Forget proper form, full range of motion, correct breathing, etc. This guy sounded like he was giving birth and he’s lucky he did not hurt himself.
Don’t be THAT person!
