The above cartoon captures how I feel.
Moving sucks. Period.
Our stuff finally arrived. The good news? Planes United was 11 days late. Per the contract they owe us $1,100. The bad news? They were 11 days late! So far nothing is missing but they did crack the shit out of our bed’s headboard.
Lovely.
The New Job:
Complicated story but the new zoo has had very inconsistent leadership these last few years. The last Supreme Leader passed away unexpectedly. So, for at least 8 months, the zoo has maintained the status quo. My boss has had a year to observe and tally things that he wants addressed. 85% of the time I like to be deliberative and base my decisions on data. Unfortunately I’ve had to hit the ground running. Add that to the move and you get a very crabby Bob.
This too shall pass.
Exercise:
Due to the arrival of the aforementioned “stuff” I took a few days off. This morning I woke up crabby. I am tired of working on some damn thing every bloody day! However I did shame myself into going for a 20 minute run. Not sure how far I went. I set the timer on my watch for 10 minutes and ran until it beeped. Then I turned around and headed back. This was my first run at 5,200 ft above sea level.
Observations:
- Slowly “body parts” are getting sore (expected).
- I was huffing the entire way and wonder how long it will take me to adjust to the altitude.
- Despite being 90 degrees I did not sweat much (unlike that swamp pit that is Indiana). God bless the high desert.
- The run did put me in a better mood so mission accomplished
I have two solid weeks of exercise time and then I’m off to Boston for a week-long leadership seminar. I highly doubt that while in Boston I’ll force myself to exercise. So I need to make the next two weeks count.
Failures:
I only meditated once and I did not get to go for my hike. We’ll see if this week is better.
This one’s for you!

Salute!

happy to hear you are settling and good luck with all the training.
Hey Nicola,
Too bad it’s not martial arts training! Can’t afford that until the old house sells. The good news is I get free access to an awesome gym so I WILL be in shape when martial arts resumes.
When there isn’t martial arts training there’s always beer training!
