Here’s part of the problem

Now that I have your attention…

From “Suspect’s elaborate arsenal easily available.”

The suspect in the deadly Colorado theater rampage early Friday used an elaborate setup of body armor, assault guns, homemade bombs and 6,000 rounds of ammunition to carry out the lethal plot.

All the gear — from military-grade smoke canisters to flak jackets — was purchased legally at local sporting good stores or over the Internet, Aurora police said.

Yikes! I just ate dinner. A few points here. It’s a fake Fender Strat, two of the guns are BB guns, and this is proof positive the bigfoot is capable of breaking into cars.

But seriously…This guy is a retard for doing something like this but he’s more than likely not a threat.

The reality of gun ownership is this…….. we have a long way to go in this country to prevent irresponsible gun ownership. I see this all the time at the gun shop….people buying guns that have no clue how to use them, own them responsibly and keep them safe.

90% of serious and law abiding gun owners would never lead on they own a gun and know how to use it. These people would never draw a weapon and wave it our the window from getting flipped off in traffic. The reality is that if you have not yet been a victim of crime one day it will find you.

With regards to James Holmes…… he wasn’t the typical guy in the picture. He received advanced training on firearms and use of explosives. This is not amateur stuff you find floating around on the internet. There is more here than meets the eye. You can buy this stuff easily enough but using it requires training.

  2. From what I have read the only advanced training he had was in neuroscience. Neuroscience is a far cry from weapons expert.

His membership ap to a gun club was rejected. Past that he spent two months easily buying stuff most civilians have no good reason owning. (if you have info proving otherwise please share link)

I think that the fat slob in the photo is a perfect metaphor for the problem: A gun-crazed culture that has easy access to personal weapons of mass destruction. The culture sits in their metaphorical underwear, basking in their macho image, while the next nut waits to go on another shooting spree.

27 mass causality gun killings since Columbine. How long before #28?

There will always mass killings unfortunately. It will not take long.

As a bit of a marksman myself it’s damn difficult to take a rifle into a closed theater like that and have that many hits vs. rounds fired. That takes advanced training.

The macho gun nuts out at the range drive me nuts and are the epitome of stupidity. Whenever something like this happens they are always pointed to as the majority. I promise you this is not so.

Last point…….world history shows the largest mass killings occur when people are defenseless against an aggressor.

  4. There will always be mass killings but we needn’t make it easy for the kooks. After Oklahoma city we now have tighter regulations on chemicals that can be used as explosives. From where I stand throwing your hands up in the air and accepting mass causality shootings is unacceptable. Again: As I’ve stated many times over the years, I think farmers, ranchers, hunters, and those needing self-defense should have access to certain firearms. But military grade firearms with all the swag? I think that Holmes illustrates why this is not acceptable. Also, I take it you cannot direct me to a news source that proves Holmes had advanced firearms training?

Lastly, you don’t need to be much of an expert to “spray & pray.” Gangs in Indy, Chicago & LA do it all the time. They’ve been doing that with much success for decades now. There’s a reason guns like the Mac-10 are so popular in gang culture. Guns like make up for their poor accuracy with their high rate of fire. Not much training needed and I shudder to think what would have happened in Holmes had armed himself with a Mac-10 and multiple magazines.

If you want it the last word on this thread is yours but I’m done.
