Head on over to DJR is you want to learn about Count Dante. And while your at it consider purchasing the app. I plan to and if I can find the time you can expect a review!
Deadly Self-Defense App to promote the documentary film and celebrate the life of Count Juan Raphael Dante (real name John Timothy Keehan), Martial Artist, Hairdresser, Priest of Voudoun, armored vault robber.

Counte Dante was certainly an enigma, and though I don’t know much about him, I find it’s hard to distinguish among reality, the self-promotion and the myth that he created for himself. Do you think he was the real deal as a martial artist? In other words, do you think he was serious in pursuing and teaching a martial art that was well-founded and structured, with some practical self-defense applications and some external and internal self-improvement mixed in? That’s admittedly my definition of “the real deal.” Or, was he just another martial shyster?
Scott,
I’m not sure either. Maybe a little of both? Dojo Rat knows more about him than I do so you might ask him. For sure CD is an interesting piece of American martial arts history!
Wow, looks very interesting.
Not sure if “hairdresser” adds to his street cred, but for 99 cents might be worth a look!
Agreed on the “street cred” but hairdresser to Playboy Bunnies only adds to the 1970′s cheese!
The app. is not bad and has more info. about Dante, links to a few videos, etc. I was hoping it reveals his “deadly” fighting techniques, but so far I can’t find that information.
