Hat-tip to Formosa for this find! Anyone ever use these? If you have I’d love to hear about it! They look an awful lot like the Indian Club to me.
I’m at the age where I totally have to mix up exercise routines just to keep motivated. At home I rely on a mixture of light weights, body weight exercises, a kettle bell, bag work, and running (yes, I’m BACK baby!).
Formosa is also the blogger that put me onto the kettlebell. The good news is that it’s a great way to combine strength and endurance training. The bad news is that I find it grueling enough that I have to fight with myself to do my weekly routine.
The kettlebell always makes my forearms sore so I can testify that its a great tool for building grip strength. It looks like the clubbell might also fall under this category.
After seeing Formosa’s clubbell video I checked out a few more on YouTuber. It looks like another tool that I should add to my workout. I checked a few sites and these things are going for about $119 a pair so forget that!
I did, however, find a video that shows you how to make your own out of pipe.
I think I could even make that cheaper and heavier by using plastic PVC pipe and filling the head with concrete. I’ll have to make a Menards run and let you know what I discover.

Yeah, they’re basically a fancy Indian club.
Start out light. I made the same homemade version; go easy the first week or so, and use the lighter, 6.5 lb “setting”. As with kettlebells, starting lighter and increasing density of reps is generally the preferred method. You’re probably better off having done kettlebells for a while, so that might be overly cautious, but you don’t want to underestimate it. For traditional Indian clubs, and things like Iranian meels, ten pounds is considered quite heavy.

And if you want to go old school, this book is awesome. http://www.sandowplus.co.uk/Competition/Kehoe/Kehoe-03.htm
How about a two inch wooden closet rod and some concrete (coffee can optional)?

Jeff – Thanks for the links!
Robert – You made me laugh out loud. Better still, your idea works! If I go that route I’d want a handle with a lip. What about some wooden kids baseball bat handles? It just might work…
