Due to a pesky stomach virus I’m running behind this week. Anyhow, here’s the news…
- Vladimir Putin to teach Nicolas Sarkozy judo.
Speaking to a French newspaper, Russia’s prime minister and former president said Mr Sarkozy wanted to learn some of his black-belt martial arts skills.
- National Kukkiwon Demonstration Team is in the U.S.
The group, called the National Kukkiwon Demonstration Team, is the most prestigious and highly regarded in the TaeKwonDo world.
- Dennis Nackord promoted to 9th dan.
A native of San Francisco, Nackord has been nicknamed the "Father of Kenpo Karate in Philadelphia"...
- One martial artist is honest about your chances in a multiple attacker situation.
Mr Hughes was asked “what about multiple attackers?” he explains: “It seems that every style of martial art has some brilliant strategy for defending and beating multiple attackers. Its funny that the most proven self defense strategy in the world, Gracie Jiu Jitsu, and the more generic Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, as some like to call it, has no claim on the multiple attacker situation.”
Whether it’s the best in the world is debatable. Regardless, I do agree with him on multiple attackers.
- Speaking of self-defense, this article has some good basic advice that anyone can use.
“Remember the groin, eyes and ears, nose, throat and shin are all vulnerable areas,” said William Wettrich, a student and self defense instructor.
- Taekwondo master implicated in plot to assassinate the former president of South Korea.
Choi Jung-hwa, however, was expected to be cleared of most of the allegations against him because he voluntarily returned and the statue of limitations on many of them have expired, said senior prosecutor Oh Se-in.
From the blogs:
- Ananasfreak thinks you can learn akido from videos.
If you are interested in learning aikido but do not have the time to attend classes in dojos or you are short of cash to enroll in an aikido class, then purchasing an aikido video would be suitable for you. By buying several aikido videos, you can learn the basic principles of martial arts.
- Martial Arts World thinks karate has no place in the MMA world.
Anyone thinking it’s a superior fighting style has been under a rock for the last 2 decades.
I would gently point out that while I agree to a point, MMA is a sport with rules so certain techniques are not allowed. (even in the early days)
- Finally, Self Defense for Everyone has a post on everyday items as weapons.
Unless you carry a vicious-looking Rambo knife in your handbag, where on earth are you going to get a weapon?
Let’s close with a video of Vladimir Putin doing some judo. I’ve posted this one before but since I started with the former Russian president I thought I’d close with him as well.
