So my chin na instructor took a few of his students to the local county fair and put on a nice demonstration. I sent him all the footage I shot and assume he’ll give me permission to share. In the meantime here he is showing a little Mantis in action.
After this one I figured out that I need to be a little closer to the stage!
Gawd bless the Second Amendment and Hoosier education
Local “celebrity” Don Davis of “Don’s Guns” is the victim of a smash and grab robbery. If you follow that link you can see the video of the robbers using a stolen vehicle to smash into his store.
Don’s Guns owner Don Davis told 6News’ Derrik Thomas the store has upwards of 6,000 guns and that it could take several days to do a complete inventory…But Davis said he’s confident the burglars will be caught.
“This is probably the worst place in America that you can come into,” he said. “When you look around it says you are being videotaped for your protection. They are on television.”
So far it looks like they’ve arrested some suspects and recovered *some* of the weapons. That’s all good and fine and credit should go to the Indianapolis area law enforcement for good work. However, I have to comment on the logic behind owning and selling 6,000 guns! Don’s store has everything from high-powered semi-auto handguns to automatic weapons, military-style firearms, and even .50 caliber rifles.
Lord knows you have a Constitutional right(tm) to own a weapon that the U.S. Army uses to take out armored personnel carriers with! And what IF the police do not recover all of the weapons? Cameras are fine but they will do little to stop these guns from being sold illegally on the street.
Matthew Tully also offers some interesting insight into all of this Second Amendment debate:
Ryle already was a felon at the time of the shooting but, he told me, getting a gun without the hassle of a background check was no problem in Indianapolis.
“Like $150 will probably get you any gun you want,” he said.
“Any laws which interfere with gun trade interfere also with gun ownership, which interferes with our Second Amendment rights,” one reader told me.
I didn’t know how to respond. It’s hard to argue with someone who can’t at least acknowledge the benefit of keeping guns away from people like Kenna Ryle.
Indianapolis is also in the midst of a crime wave and I find it very curious that ownership of handguns by law abiding citizens is doing little to curtail it. In fact, most of the murders have been committed with firearms.
“Indianapolis police are at a loss to explain what has spawned a wave of killings that will make July one of the deadliest months in at least two years…”
From Dennis Ryerson:
Yes, the majority of us won’t be directly confronted by violent crime. But what does it say about our city when 11 people are gunned down in 10 days? Does it make us proud? Does it make us hopeful? Does it make us feel secure?
These 11 people and the policeman who was shot were family members, neighbors, parents, sons and daughters.
Indianapolis is also completing Lucas Oil Stadium and revitalizing areas of the city in an attempt to make Indianapolis “world class”.
Over the next four years, individuals, corporations and elected officials across Indianapolis will have the opportunity to support Super Bowl efforts by investing volunteer time, charitable contributions, specialized volunteer skills and political will to make this neighborhood vision a reality.
Keeping with that world class theme Indianapolis is also unveiling a new airport and is using it to overhaul it’s hilljack image.
“This airport is the gateway to Indianapolis and is often the first and the last impression travelers are going to have of our city,” Randall Tobias, President of the Indianapolis Airport Authority Board said.
“When people come from around the nation and from around the world in to this building, they will immediately get the Hoosier flavor to it,” Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard said
Ever the marketer and public servant ol’ Bob has a bang up idea! The airport authority should invest in several dozen big screen plasma televisions and stage them where arriving passengers can see. Then they should run a continuous loop of Don’s guns’ commercials. In addition, airport personal can pass out discount gun rental tickets for a free hour at Don’s gun range! (Once Mr. Davis repairs his store and restocks it with weapons.)
If this doesn’t say “welcome to a progressive city” I don’t know what does.
