Tournament Training…
April 22, 2008 by Bob Patterson
Last night was more tournament preparation. I worked with super student on breaking. Sabum worked with students who are going to try a form at the tourney. Then we both worked on everyone’s sparring. Sabum and a few others are sparring at this tournament. I’m sitting that part out but I am breaking and trying a weapons form. I also want to remain relatively undamaged for the Cho Dan test in May.
The round kick with flat of foot on one board made the cut. It stung a little but was not too bad. In fact, I may try two solid. My step jumping axe kick also made the cut. I’m going to try a stack of 7 - 10 with spacers. Funny thing but when I tested 5 this weekend it did not hurt anymore than that round. Last night I tested it on ONE re-breakable and bruised my heel and ankle. It will be OK by Saturday but I surely do hate that plastic practice board because we’ve had a lot of people get hurt with it.
I also demonstrated the nunchuka kata again to Sabum and did it right after sparring when I was exhausted. I actually did pretty good with only minor mistakes that the judges will probably not even notice.
Wed. night should be light because we are holding belt tests. So, nothing more to do but practice from home in my free time and get my head in the game for Saturday.
